| What I don't understand and maybe I'm not seeing it at all but Garrett did a full analysis on machined vs cast compressor wheels and came up with some interesting finds that showed that the billet machined wheels didn't offer any real improvements over the cast versions. [ http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/news/race_updates/Garrett_Fully_Machined.html ] Now my one question is are the new billet wheels identical to the cast version as they state in that article or are these completely different and are allowed to be different due to the simplicities in machining them vs having them cast and waiting for a longer period of time to produce turbochargers. I totally understand the reasons why going to a billet wheel as its faster to produce and you have more ability to alter settings and details as you need. I just see a contradiction so to speak (if there is one) within Garretts statements. I'm all for a better design..don't get me wrong. I'm also all for Garrett even being able to produce the turbos we want to use more readily. I guess we will just have to see how things turn out once the new year comes around. I my contact at Garrett explained to me that these should be available in the larger framed (GT40 and above) turbos then by March or April the smaller turbos will begin to be fitted with these. Pricing is expected to be around $100-200 more per turbo roughly so costs isn't too bad over what we currently pay not to mention the benefits they claim either. Theres just one turbo that Garrett makes that out performs all the turbos up to the GT40 and its a make shift custom application turbocharger that Garrett makes that is based off the T28 that I WISH they would offer to the public but they won't. The community could see power unlike anything before running that turbo. Anyways...keep your eyes peeled. More things to come.
